Oberfeldwebel Hans Strippel, Panzer Regiment 1/1st Panzer-Division, was a panzer ace who was awarded the Knights Cross in January 1943 for destroying a total of 37 enemy T-34 tanks, during combat at Cherkassy, on the eastern front. Known as "Panzerfuchs der Ersten" (Panzer Fox of the First), Strippel was awarded Oakleaves to the Knights Cross in June 1944 for his actions in the Korsun pocket  in early 1944 and a total of 70+ enemy tanks destroyed. Among his many combat awards are included the Panzer Assault Badge for 50 Engagements and The German Cross in Gold. Strippel survived the war and passed away in Bad Hersfeld, Germany in 1983, aged 72.
